Going to go look at and (let’s be honest) buy a Garand tonight. It’s never been shot by the owner it is fitted with a new Criterion barre with new furniture. The seller is asking $1,050 which is right at the CMP price. What are everyone’s thoughts on these examples, description off CMP sight below:

CMP SPECIAL: (EXCELLENT)

CMP's new grade of M1 Garand. This rifle consists of a new production stock and handguard set with CMP cartouche, a new production barrel and new web sling. Receiver and most other parts are refinished USGI, but some parts may be new manufacture.

I've got a CMP special on a '42 Winchester receiver. I think it's a good way to get a Garand with a new barrel and new-ish parts that you intend to shoot.

Many rifles from the CMP require removing the stock and lubrication before shooting for correct operation.

Id want to know what parts are "new manufacture." Cast replacement extractors are bad news with Garands/Carbines/M1a.

I guess if I was gonna get one with a new barrel, Id go .308 too, but either way Garands are fun.

Good luck, we expect pics if you get it, of course!:D

I’ve got one, gonna shoot it for the first time this weekend, it looks really sharp
