THE CHAIR IS AGAINST THE WALL
Did anyone else see Larry King Live tonight?

The show was meant to be a look back and rememberance of 9|11. The guests were Tom Ridge, Rudy Guliani, Senator Jon Kyle (R, AZ), Senator Diane Feinstein (D, Hell), and House members Chris Shays (R, CN) and Jane Harman (D, CA)

Betting on the manipulative nature of at least one of the panel guests, I figured that some sort of obnoxious grandstanding was in the works, and I opted not to switch the channel to something more edifying, like the Home Shopping Network.

Ridge was up first, and answered some basic questions about the 9|11 commission and a couple of other things. He was followed by Guliani who, despite the fact that politically I disagree with him vehemently, strikes me as a principled and fairly decent fellow. He refused to answer several questions on the grounds of not wanting to politicize the events of 9|11 out of respect for those who died in the attacks.

After Rudy was done with his segment Larry King starts asking the remaining guests about national security, the 9|11 commission, etc. Suddenly *WHAM* with no promptage from King, Jane Harmon starts blathering on about the ban on so-called "assault weapons." At this point I can practically hear the director screaming over headsets to get the camera with Feinstein back on screen for a reaction shot. They pop the double box back up where the Pillsbury Doughthing of evil is grinning with one of those "thanks, bro" smiles plastered on her mug. Feinstein respectably hems and haws for all of two seconds* before launching into a tirade about [insert standard grabber mythology here.] They then cut to Chris Shays, who eagerly voices his agreement with his two compatriots.

Then they cut back to Larry who asks Kyle, from AZ about the AWB. Being a typical Republican, he screws his face up in concentration, as if he were trying to puzzle out whether or not Republicans really are invertebrates, and then dishes up a plate of waffles that would need a containter of syrup from SAM'S club to be properly edible.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I would have found this sort of political grandstanding on a day of rememberance for an act of off-the-scales mass-murder positively offensive if I hadn't known it was coming.

*I must admit, her restraint for that whole two seconds was amazing. This would be akin to a leather fetishist opting to talk about bran muffins at an S&M Convention.

What can you expect from the Clinton News Network which has loaned out Begala and Carville for use at no cost to the Kerry campaign. Mind you that they are still employed by CNN. I hate CNN and its communist orientation!
