Hey guys. Im a college student in PA and I from NJ. I have a shotgun that I like to take shooting every now and then. However, Im not allowed to have guns on campus or in the dorms. Is there a way I can still keep my gun up here. My friends dont live close enough that I can put it there. Can I keep it in a locked gun case in my trunk if i park off campus? What else can I do? My house is too far for me to drive home to go shooting, and I dont want to be an hour and a half away from a gun. Should I just keep it at home, or is there some other option. Thanks guys.

The university police here in Gainesville can supposedly keep a gun for you in their gun locker. Never tried it, but it's worth a shot asking the authorities what to do.

well lucky for me i dont have a farm to bet with :D ...im a gamblin man. haha

yea, ill keep looking around for some info about it. but thanks guys

Check with University or local police. Our campus force won't do it (University of Maryland), but others might. It may also be possible to get a waiver for the gun ban if you talk with the President or Chief of Police.

DOn't forget, you make friends at school. Check out local clubs and find someone with a safe that has an empty corner you can use.

can you break the shotgun down, I mean all most all shotguns can be broken down into two major parts, reciever stock and forearm barrel or barrel. get a soft case for a keyboard or a gig bag, the parts will fit real nice in there and no one looks twice at a kid with a instrument bag. Or a tennnis racket bag, same thing urban camoflage. If you have to leave it in the trunk, break it down and take the barrel or the receiver with you. that way if you get broke into, you are not giving up a functional gun to the banger's

i wonder if that would also help me out legally. i mean, its not a functional gun in my trunk. its 2 different parts in two locked cases. Im sure that would do me some good.

ASk the ROTC guys...they might be able to do something. I know that ehre at OSU ROTC has a shooting range, but only for psitols. Some of the on-campus ROTC guys keep their guns in the ROTC building i beleive.

thanks for more info guys. however, my school doesnt have an ROTC or armed security guards. Its a small private school. So its pretty much, no guns on campus. Im still thinking the gun in the trunk idea is good. But if I get pulled over and Im not en route to go shooting, couldnt i face charges or a fine?

Keep a current hunting license in the State that you going to school in. If it is legal for you to passess that arm, there should be no issue with interstate travel with the arm for the purposes of hunting.

its a tactical mossberg 500 with a folding stock. i dont think i could pass it as a hunting rifle, unless i say i shoot foul or birds. but thats not a bad idea. thanks

It is sad that in a land as free as ours we have to worry about getting afoul of the law when we had no bad intent.

I was just about to say the same thing. It really torques my britches to see Americans talking nonchalantly about how to best avoid tyrannical penalties for exercising our God-given right to Keep and Bear Arms. :fire:

bah.. anyway. Keep it in the trunk.

Hallelujah! I know where I'm going to college! So I don't have to wait untill i'm out of college.
