Heading to the springs tomorrow night to visit son and daughter inlaw.
Want to shoot on Sunday at rampart range or dragon man's.
Which is better to introduce our daughter in law ( a realatively new shooter) to some handguns, and/or is dragon man even open on Sunday?
Want her to try my wifes Sig P239 and a Mak. She doesn't like our son's P95. Bringing a Sistema Colt I've work over to give to son for early Bday gift.
Once I decide where we will go to shoot, I would like to meet some of you springs area folk if you can make it out on Sunday.
Going to finish packing the trailer for now (taking out some choice PA wild cherry and walnut rough sawn lumber for our son).
I'll check back in here later.
Thanks in advance,
Larry

Although I'm not a Springs resident (not yet anyway :)
I just visited my brother who lives up there and we took my new AR to Rampart on a Sat afternoon (not sure about Sunday but I'm pretty sure its 7days sun-up to sun-down)

First I have to say you MUST have a 4wd vehicle to get up there. Its nice and smooth about 3/4s of the way up the road.. then the last 2 miles is super rutted and required either a vehicle with a high ground clearence and or 4wd.

Other than that its not the prettiest range and offers a sort of rifle area and a pistol area both close together. The rifle seciton has benches and the pistol had bartop style platforms.

Bring targets and duct tape to hold your targets up.
You can bring reactive targets.. i.e. bottles of water, melons, and anything else you can think of. However I noticed the place was littered with lots of debris and junk which detracted from the looks of the place.
I personally wouldn't feel right bringing trash that would not be easy to pick up. Fruit however will naturally decay.

You will also want to bring plenty of sunblock and bottled water or other cold beverages.
When we were there a guy had his 6-7yo boy shooting with him, so your little one should have a good time.
Hope you have a good time.

Moderator Justin and I might be able to accomodate you on Sunday. We belong to a private (read nice) range near the Springs. Shoot me an email with your contact info.

The Dragon Man's range is open Sundays. It costs $10 to shoot there. It's one of the safer ranges I've ever shot at, and everyone I've ever chatted with there has been friendly and polite. The signage on the way into the range may strike some people as decidedly adolescent. The firearms offered for sale in the gun shop fall into two categories: cheap and Class III. The Dragon Man himself is a knowledgeable, pleasant fellow.

What Steve said.
Dragonman's is a decent enough range. I've never met the man myself, but his wife is cool. The downside is that it's kinda got that Burt Gummer motif goin' for it, which isn't exactly conducive to introducing newbies to the positive aspects of gun ownership. (That said, I do find it amusing.)

But yeah, either send Steve or I an email and we'll see if we can set something up.

Remind me to get in touch with you two the next time I come out to visit Zundfolge

(oh dear did I just admit he's my brother in public :neener: )

either going out to frontier at 8am on sat. or at around the same time on friday.
90% it will be on sat. mourning.
plan on doing about 150 to 200 rounds of rapids at 200 and then I'am out of there as its going to be a hot one.

uh oh ... its out of the bag ... Veloce851 is my brother

Jade, Veloce and I where just out there about 3 weeks ago, so the range is still open. Only problems are the last 1/4 of the drive is for jeeps and other high clearance 4x4s only (don't try it with a Subaru)! Plus they are doing some work on the road and if you run into one of the road crews you might end up sitting for half an hour or so (plus side is when they get the road finished it will be easier to drive up).

I liked shooting there as well as Dragonman (if not better) ... the drive to Dragonman is boring, but I made it easily in a Porsche that's lowered. The only unpaved bit on the way to Dragonman is his driveway ('bout 1/4mile). The drive up to Rampart is beautiful though, and the road in is not littered with "bloody" mannequins and shot up cars with signs saying "Ex Wife" and "A Guy Who Annoyed Dragonman" .

If I ever find myself with the money, I plan on building an indoor range with attached coffeeshop and bookstore (don't hold your breath though).

Justin,
got your email to Chris about meeting Sunday. Posting here also about getting together. Give us a call at the numbers Chris gave you so we can arrange to get together. Is AR15 OK at the range you mentioned??
Thanks again,
Larry

Steve, Justin:

Is your private range/club looking for new members? I'm in Monument, and have been looking for a decent club to join.

Thanks in advance for any info you might be able to share.

We have a few more openings left this open membership season. The season will close shortly. Contact me or Justin via PM for more info.
