I went up to Rampart Range today and got a huge suprise on the way up.

They fixed the road. Fresh dirt & gravel everywhere, nice and smooth. I dunno how long it will last but its real nice today. I made it up from Garden of the Gods to the range in 15 minutes without losing a filling!

So are you telling me I could drive up that road with a Nissan 240sx (2wd sports car)?

Nothing on that road would've gave a Nissan a hard time today. If it rains a bunch and washes away the fresh dirt, that might change.

I know you're new around here. You know how to get up there? Go into Garden of the Gods to Rampart Range road, its 5.8 miles off the pavement up on your left. Can't miss it.

I may go up again tomorrow depending on the wifes plans. Definitly next weekend again for sure. Them steel tables get auful hot, might want to take something to drape over it.

I've been up there once. My folks came to town to visit so we drove my dad's Tahoe up there ... it was in 4x4 low part of the way

yeah, a blanket for the tables and be sure to wear a hat (or bring some sort of tent aparatus to cover the tables.

I may head up there next weekend (too many honeydos to do tomorrow).

Did they change the park rules?

When I lived in the 'Springs in the early 90's it was supposedly illegal to drive through GotG park with firearms. Of course, that made it difficult to get to the shooting range, but that was the only sensible way to get up there.
The only other way in was the back way through Woodland Park, 18-20 miles over rough roads, IIRC.

There were reports of most LEOs choosing not to enforce the regulations, but nothing official. One female officer, it was rumored, was looking to strictly enforce the regs, not liking target shooters in general.
Back then you took your chances driving up there.

There were some noises being made about making changes to the park regulations, or writing some kind of official exception to allow armed people to drive up there.
Did that finally happen?

I miss the 'Springs. It's a wonderful place to live.

Try closer to 30 miles, and Woodland Park is hurting for money so the police are very strict and hand out tickets freely, so you guys be careful if you go that way.;)

I never did divert and go the long way, too expensive in more ways than gas. But its cool they eased the park rules to let us 'legally' pass through.

I met a guy up there yesterday who had a 1953? Moisen Nagent Sniper Rifle with a K-98 Mauser bolt and original scope. Said its all original and has the paperwork from when it was a captured piece in Nam. Really sweet. The scope adjustments moved the scope body rather than the reticle.

I like the Rampart Range. Always interesting people & guns there. I hope they keep the road up like it is now. Its like a whole different road than it used to be. I thought it was a non-maintained road?? I wonder who fixed it.
