I bought a Beretta Px4 Storm 40cal S&W and it came with night-sights. Basically they're pale-white, and if you expose them to direct light, flashlight, etc., they glow bright green, but they don't glow long.

And, I'm having trouble with my shooting eye, and it's my bad eye that requires me to wear 1.25 reading glasses.

I practice mainly at indoor shooting range, and even with the clear, or yellow glasses, I can't see the small pale white sights.

So, I bought some "Bright Sights" paint, non-glow Red, white, yellow green, and orange.

I also bought 3 of the Ghost Glow in white, green, and yellow, as they don't sell red in glow form.

So, my question is, I can mix them and get glow from light, but I wonder if they will last (glow) any longer than what came from the factory (not long) and if I did, I would have to paint the 2 rear sights White, and the front sight Green.

But, I think I would be able to see them better if I painted them with the non-glow colors of Green for the 2 rear sights, and Red for the front sight.

Also, I pick up my new Sig 229R CT 9mm this coming Monday, same factory night sights as Beretta.

Would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Thanks,

LS

My thoughts, suggestions: Don't bother putting it on.

I bought some recently, and applied it to 6 or 7 guns. Works great, visibility much improved. But they all came off at the first cleaning. Re-applied, same results.

Sent an e-mail off to the mfr. Got into a very cordial e-mail conversation with a rep. She suggested cleaning the surface better before re-applying. I did... same results.

They offered to replace the kit or to send a refund. I'm tired of messing with it.

It worked great. Then it fell off.

I read orange nail polish stays on.

Any particular brand? I gave up on the "Bright Sights", but I still need something to make a couple of the sights more visible. The sights on my wife's TomCat are really hard to see.

Aren't factory sig night sights tritium filled tubes, not just glow in the dark paint?

How about painting everything BUT the dot? Then you could still see it at night.

I took a dremel and made a divot in the front sight, then filled it with testor's white model paint (enamel). Seems to be good, so far, and definitely improves aiming.

Can you give more detail? I'm having a bit of trouble picturing this, and I need to do something with the wife's Beretta.

Thanks

I have used model paint (Testors, comes in the little 1 oz bottle for about $2). Orange works well for me, and it has not come off afetr a number of cleanings.

@ orionengnr

Thanks, I'll give that a try too.

I'm not trying to hijack your thread, I'm really not. I'm hoping you're getting some good input out of all this too.

Funny, how the model paint or red fingernail paint has its merits acc to others, and the range officer where I shoot, suggested use the wife's red nail polish.. last week, but she doesn't use red nail polish.. sigh lol

I will find the magic bullet.. hehehe

Thanks everyone..

P.S. My Bright Sites paint and Ghost Glow will look good in my cabinet of, "In case of Emergency Use Only".. lol

It looks that way, as all of the new Sig 220's that have just come in, have them. The Sig P229R CT 9mm that I actually put down $ to hold, almost 2 months ago, as per waiting period in between each gun purchase here in Calif, has the same night sights as mentioned, but it comes with a Factory Laser Grip.. and I pick it up this Monday. 2 more to go, so I should have my collection by late June 07, and yes, most likely any new guns I can choose from will come with the newer fiber sights.

Hah! I was about to respond to your post when I was rambunctiously assaulted by 200+ pounds of canine enthusiasm... for no good reason, I might add. I was drawn kicking and screaming into several minutes of wrasslin' and snugglin', and now I can't remember what I was gonna type!

I do remember that I was going to mention that my kit 'o' paint is now on the top shelf of my ammo cabinet with the lesser-used holsters and empty ammo boxes.

Oh yeah... I guess you'll just have to find somebody that does use red fingernail polish. :D

I use bright yellow modellers paint on my KelTec P32. For me, it stands out better than the white.

The paint does come off during cleaning, but I just retouch the sights as needed.

Correction, you were right, I just picked up the P229R CT 9mm, today, and they did indeed come with factory Sig night sights tritium filled tubes, not just glow in the dark paint, like the Beretta's sights.

Having new sights put on the Beretta tomorrow, same as what the Sig came with.. around 190 bucks.

i have used nail polish (to color my sights) for years
recently switched to automotive touch-up paint (only because i can take my time picking out the right color w/out looking funny)

I use model car paint. I find that lime green works best for me. It is easily removed with accatone or laquor thinner.
