Nothing wrong with the gun, there have been some great deals out there on new Colts for couple of months now. In November/December Colt was offering $100 rebates and some great sale prices. I got a new Commander from Palmetto State Armory's sale in December for $599!! Brand spanking new, not a thing wrong with it. The sales seemed to slow down a bit in January, maybe they're picking back up.

Myself I feel the all steel Colts are the best choice, nothing wrong with the Alloy framed Colts I just feel having the more weight of the all steel Colts make them a lot better to shoot. As I don't carry my Colts they are just range toys.

I have the LW XSE...the same one advertised. Paid over $900 for it two years ago. Carry it frequently.

I'd buy it for that price. Given Colts awful management, you never know how long they will be around.

Delmar - That one is nice but, I'm looking for the big upswept beavertail and the bump on the grip safety. I know that's all cosmetic but, thats just how I'd like it to be
Actually, those are functional, not cosmetic features. the upswept beavertail allows a much higher grip on the gun, allowing better control, and without fear of getting "bitten" by the hammer. The bump on the grip safety provides for positive disengagement when using a 2-handed grip.

Mine is the Govt. steel frame XSE

Gave it a facelift with new grip safety, thumb safety, stocks, slide stop, sear, disco, plunger tube, mag release, and barrel bushing. It's a work in progress that will eventually be my eldest son's first 1911 after some front strap work and a refinish.

Great price... Only difference from a Series 70 is firing pin safety... No worries..unless u want a sub 3# trigger pull

Both of those pieces are easy to purchase and install or have installed. And it would still be a good price.

An alloy framed 5" model is a slight oddity. Usually people go for steel Government Models and Lightweight Commanders, but if that's what you want, nothing wrong with it. My last lightweight Colt was 1300-ish, so jump on it.

I did it! I bought the light weight government model and I can't be more pleased. I love this gun! I've always loved 1911's and this one is just what I've always wanted. I've finally joined the pony club. Range pictures to follow.

Looking forward to the range pics, Doogledog. Took my 1911s out on Sunday with some of the better half's cousins and had a great time. At 20 yards, my 2014 Series 80 shoots better groups than my 2002 Trophy Match. Within the next 45 days, I will be getting a new National Match and possibly a steel Commander.

I must have weird hands, because the standard grip safety fits me just fine. I know that I don't grip mine as high as some, but I have never needed the upswept grip safety. I'd bet that if I was getting bit by the hammer when I shot, I would look at getting the upswept.

Congrats. I have a Government sized LW Springfield. Very good gun. There is a differnece over a steel frame, but nothing to lose sleep over.

There is nothing wrong with Colts Alloy frames,if you don't want the steel frame the price of that Colt 1911 seems good to me.

In the way back when an outfit called Ranger IIRC started selling 1911A1 frames in Aluminium I as a teen was hot for one. Dad got one to play with for a bit and I thought it jumped around and "bucked" a bit more than a "real" 1911A1 and decided against it. Many miles of carrying 1911A1s or Series 70 Mark IVs later I wish I had gotten one of the aluminum frame guns.

Even wish that about an Officers ACP.

I guess for me the discussion would be based on do I want this new gun for carry or for gun games. For carry I would not mind an Aluminum frame 1911 style at all.

My son will be going on his first three night hiking camp this week and begin his own struggle with the "Travel light, freeze at night" dichotomy.

Plus, if you're at all interested in value in a 1911 that appreciates over time, then you want to have a Pony on that roscoe.

LOL, nice turn of phrase !! :D

By the way, I had one of those Colt 1991's, and like a moron, I traded it away, and have missed it ever since.

Slickguns.com and buds have had Colts very cheap for the past 6 months. The one you saw is routinely at $$699, and when Colt ran a special it was $599 for a month or so. But look at the model numbers, some half dozen or so are in the 700 dollar range.
Just look at slickguns every day, and you will catch a sale. Not all of the past ones show up even if you check that box that says show previous sold out deal.
