Colt .45 M1917

I recently was given an M1917 military Colt, the gun is in good mechanical condition, however there is some loss of the blueing end some slight rust on the frame. Should I attempt to clean it, and if so, how? I'm happy with the appearance of the weapon, but I don't like the rust!

Use 0000 grade (Super Fine) steel wool & oil to remove the active rust and get it stopped.

It will not harm the remaining finish unless you get crazy rubbing hard in one place too long.
