If you are referring to the "new" Cobra, it ain't. A Cobra is an alloy framed 38 special, six shot, with or without a hammer shroud and in blued carbon steel. Colt is trying to win back the thousands of us they crapped all over years ago when they dropped all the great guns we loved and made their reputation on....Woodsman, Cobra, Agent, Python, Diamondback, Trooper, .357, and others. Government contracts blinded them to their real customer base. I, for one, will keep my Scout, Woodsman and 1903, but won't buy another, old or new.

SPL is short for Special. Caliber is 38 S&W Special

Don’t want to advertise for S&W and the barrel is to short anyway to write Special so they abbreviate

Glock only put .40 on their barrels

Colt started this when 38 Special took over as the main caliber. Wouldn’t put S&W anywhere on the Gun.
