I recently purchased a used SA Colt Cowboy only to find that the first time I took it to the range , it would not fire. Further inspection by my local gunsmith revealed that the firing pin was broken. If the gun was the typical Colt SA Army , the problem would have been quickly remedied , since " in -hammer " replacement firing pins are readily available. Not this gun. As many of you know this is a transfer bar mechanism with the firing pin residing in the breech. Thus started the nationwide search for the firing pin. No luck with Colt , Midway , Brownells ,Bob's Gun Parts or numerous other suppliers of Colt SA parts. As a last resort I contacted VTI Gun Parts in Lakeville , CT (860-435-8068 ). As luck would have it, Jim , the owner was somewhat familiar with my gun. Although he did not have the actual Colt part , he thought that the " guts" were made in Italy and that the firing pin for the Beretta/Uberti Stampede ( 300098/ old 1) might work. Perfect Fit ! So, if you find yourself in a similar predicament , you might want to give them a call.

No part of the Colt Cowboy was made in Italy, you lucked out if a Stampede pin fit.
Some larger parts for the Cowboy were cast in Canada, smaller were domestic.

Dang, the guy had a problem, discovered an easy fix and shared it.

Guess I'll be the first to say:

Thanks for the info! Might come in handy sometime.

In the world of Cowboy Action Shooting, VTI gunparts is well known to be the best supplier of replacement parts. They have the most extensive line of replacement parts for Uberti anywhere, as well as parts for Pietta, Pedersoli, Colts, and Rugers. Their Uberti parts are the most extensive anywhere because VTI used to be Uberti USA. Corporate changes at Uberti caused the Uberti USA to morph into a parts supplier rather than a firearms importer. The best part about VTI is they really know their stuff, much more than some other parts suppliers. They know their stock inside out and which part fits which model, which is more than some of the other parts suppliers can say. If you don't know what part you need, the staff at VTI knows.

Two additional comments:
For Colt Cowboy owners or prospective buyers, any parts needed will likely be a problem.
And, agree on VTI. Maria Uberti (Aldo's sister) started the company up originally to import Uberti guns. Later changes ended that & the company was transitioned to a parts importer, and they are the first place to start in looking for Italian repro parts.
