Excluding such factors as price difference, resale value, and "piece of history", which is the superior revolver (quality-wise only) current production Colt SAA or USFA SAA clone? Also, do both generally shoot POA out of the box? Thanks.

My Rodeo had to go back to the factory to have the barrel turned. A taller front sight was also going to be installed but when it came back they had forgotten. So I had to adjust my POA. I bought it after selling my 2nd generation Colt which was a nice gun, slickified by Bob Munden. I've heard Colt is iffy on QC, other wise I'd say it's a toss-up. Others swear by USFA but it was like pulling teeth to get ahold of them.

I bought 3 USFA's because they are feel closer to the pre-WWII Colt SAA than the new Colts do. Both makes are OK, both need tuning to give peak performance, and both will likely have some individual guns that are not quite up to par. (I might also say that those guns - and similar SA revolvers - represent an obsolete, flat spring technology that was state of the art in the 1840's but has long since been replaced by more reliable and stronger guns.)

A year ago USFAs were top gun with colt running way behind. Rumors are that colt has reformed their design and quality control a bit in response to USFA competition. Hard to say how they stack up now. USFA has come out with a bewildering array of different guns and the business has grown alot. Sometimes quality control goes down the toilet when those things happen.

Hopefully, they are still putting out a first rate product but the only way to tell is to buy one and hope for the best. There are no reliable consumer oriented publications
