comp shooting, michigan

this has kind of interested me for a while now. where and when can i go see a match (if thats what they are called), so i can see if this is something i want to pursue? i live in western mid michigan, closeset large town would be grand rapids. i am not even sure of what type of shooting i would be interested in, or what type of classes there are. i guess probably .22 rimfire, i am semi-disabled (i am legally, but i guess i refuse to completely acept it) something that would not be to expensive to get into. i would probably have to buy a rifle, as my 22 is my dads mossberg 151m, made about 1935, and it has probably 5-7000 rounds through it. is there such a thing as a handicap class? thanks, dave s

You could go over to the Grand Rapids Rifle and Pistol Club and get acquainted.

They seem to shoot pretty much conventional events which are kind of equipment intensive.

You could take your Dad's Mossberg down to Kalamazoo and shoot CMP rimfire sporter. That is NOT equipment intensive. About 1/4 the way down the page at:

Hey there:
I am a member at this range and it is one of the larger ones in the state.

They are located west of Door mi. not far (South )of Grand Rapids.
We pretty much so have it all there. But there are no indoor ranges.
CMP, IPSC, Silhouette (center fire and rim fire) Skeet , Trap and lots of pistol ranges. Plate machine ect.
I have been there for many years, good bunch.
This is a member owned club, and not open to the public but as a member you have the right to bring visitors.
The cost is at $140.00 per year now. We just purchased 40 acers more land. Some of this cost can be worked off
on work days. Anyway the cost is fair for me and only 15 miles from my home.
