Confronted While Shooting, What To Do?

next time, go dressed as a crazy cult member, wrapped in bubble wrap. Nobody will bother you.

do a pre-emptive strike.

have your father contact the cement factory. Have your father state to the effect "I am the property manager of the radio tower. I have been informed that one of your employees has been tresspassing on the tower grounds. I was told that the employee's boss was close by when this happened. Do you have any information on this? Please tell all your employees that they need to call me at XXX-XXXX and ask permission before entering.

Then once you have the name of the individual who tresspassed, have your dad conact him and basically say. "Sir, I have some responsible shooters who carefully use the radio station land for shooting. They tell me you claim to hunt nearby. As you know sir, a rifle bullet can go quite far. Please be aware of the location of our property while hunting. Note that we will inspect our property for damage done by hunters firing from their property onto ours. Would you please consider not hunting close to the radio tower?"

Throw him off balance, and get him in some heat at work. No way should an employee and boss tresspass on another person's property and level demands against the legal users. The fact that the boss was close by, now the cement company is going to wonder what is up, and they are going to put pressure on that employee to not screw around and make more trouble because they don't want to get dragged into it.

See, this kind of thing cuts both ways

I will put up a no trespassing sign though with my Dad's OK.

that is a good idea, but don't let that one guy ruin it for everyone.

I suggest a sign that says "No tresspassing without prior permission. If you are interested in accessing this land please call XXX-XXXX"

I'd hate to think of birdwatchers or someone else who wants to use the land being discouraged because of a "Keep out" sign. When you put up a no tresspass sign with contact information you are basically extending a hand in friendship by saying you are reasonable and will often give permission to reasonable requests

I thought the response about the .50 BMG was kinda funny, if not quite politically correct. If a .50 doesn't get the message across, try some Tannerite. If you don't know what it is, go to www.tannerite.com and see what it is. Cool stuff, not too expensive, a real "blast", and legal.

I'd suggest .50 BMGs for next time.

+1 on that.

He hunts deer on 2 acres?

Yeah, you know, shoots them when they come across his porch.

While you may be right, he could put enough pressure on the owner to revoke your permission.

Given the way the owners have acted so far, they'll probably tell the man to get lost.

Fifteen hundred feet from a house or road is not very far, even with your good backstop to contain the bullets and muffle some of the noise. That is my one reservation; I would rather have at least 1500 yards.Otherwise I think you did mostly OK.

All but one firing range in my general area is much worse. One of them is right in the middle of a large intersection and has a smaller backstop.

hahahaha.
I would love to take an ak hunting just for that purpose.
Wouldn't even need to take a deer home to feel accomplished.
Its actually unnerving. You would think you were carrying somebody's scalp or severed head or something.

If hunters are really that insane about it, I'd probably take an AK deer hunting just to mess with them, and do my best to bag a buck to amplify the effect.

Now, shooting is fine on your property or if you have permission-- as LONG as you are CERTAIN that your bullet does not leave that property. If you shoot into someone else's property, you are gonna have a bad day.

Actually, I almost had a bad day from that, when a neighbor in Florida got drunk and started blasting off his AK, and one of the bullets hit the wall of my house about a foot above my head.

I shoot in my backyard almost daily. We have herds of deer around my property, and none of them seem to mind the noise.

Funny thing with animals, they tend to know what's up. I use to go out in the woods and blast away at cans and animals were showing up like snow white but when I went quail hunting the forest was so quiet you could hear your heart beat.
