Here is your statement of purpose:
Statement of Purpose:

To ban the possession, manufacture or sale of handguns that are coated with various colors.

Oh my friggin' head. :banghead:

Who dreamed this one up and what do they hope to accomplish? And better yet, who do I write to? Jodi again, I guess. And (Whoopee!) Edith Prague with her NRA D+

This sounds like something ghost written by a police officer who just passed through a hearing for use of deadly force.

Basically they want to be able to distinguish between guns and non guns based on color rather than common sense. Is the guy holding up a bank? Probably real. Is the kid pointing at you and going "bang bang youre dead?" Probably not, even if he is black. Instead cops will get to say "oh he pointed a black gun shaped object at me, therefore I had to kill him immediately without pausing to consider the situation."

But the problem is that the penalty for this will be so infintesimally small that anyone wishing to do this for nefarious purposes will simply ignore the law, which is a stupid one anyway. I also note that they ommitted olive drab, which pisses me off to no end.

Also, it only mentions coatings. Since plastic isnt a coating and has the color within, you can still get a pink AR15 or a plum AK47 stock. Stupid legislators.

Crooks have been painting their guns to look like toys for years. I remember seeing a couple examples about 9 years ago courtesy of the local sheriff. So how will this stop a bad guy from painting his gun? Duh, it won't. It'll stop people from personalizing their firearms with colors they like. It'll help lower interest in guns from those more likely to be put off by boring, black weapons like youths or females. It'll be yet another chance for gov't to hang a gun owner out to dry. In short, it'll be just like every other anti-gun law on the books. It will do nothing to stop violent crime, most criminals will never know it exists, and none will care. Tons of good gun owners will suffer under the burden. Some politicians and other brain dead creatures will "feel" better though, and isn't that what we're all about now-a-days?

The bill clearly sas "handguns". We aslready can't have AK-47 type rifles, and AR's come with serious restrictions...

I just read a law enforcement bulletin last month

People have been getting weapons coated to make them resemble the non guns that are used for LE training. The bulletin probably made its' way to the east coast and the state decided, in the interest of officer safety, to make it illegal. It is not as crazy a bill as it would first appear.

"dosn't apply to cops..."
since when do cops carry pink guns?

i have things to say about this, but it would be un-highroad-ly...

i'll be getting out of this state when i can...

Hey Hawk!

Wonder if the ACLU would jump in on this one? :D

Seriously, trying to make "it's a toy" or "it's not a toy" a bit obvious might make a little sense.

But my $800+ Para Tac-Four's green....

Sure ain't a toy....

Neither is my sort of dark grey/black Kimber.

And what's to stop somebody from painting a gun a "toy" color. I expect that the "red tip" has been done already. NBD to do the rest of the gun.

Since outlawing toy guns probably would be as difficult as outlawing real ones, we seem to have a solution for which there is no problem....

Regards,
