Anyone know whether you can convert single-action to double action? Here's the deal. Looking at a BFR, but it's only available in single-action. Nice, but not really me. The BFR frame is, I believe, a modified super blackhawk.

Why? because I shot a thunder-five and fell in love with the idea of a .410 DA revolver, but would not spend $1 on that POS.

On the cowboy-looking guns, I do not believe that there is enough room inside the frame for a trigger-driven assembly. Look at a Colt Thunderer, a DA reputed to be fairly fragile, and go from there. If I had the urge, I'd just buy a .500 S&W and rechamber it for your desired cartridge. That type of work is easier to do and less prone to failure. The action is robust. Those .410s are LONG.

If you mean "convert" as "design and manufacture a totally new gun that looks like a SAA, but with DA lockwork", the answer is yes. High Standard did it by using the Sentinel system and DA/SA lockwork in a simulated SA revolver that went by the name of Longhorn, among others. Colt themselves did it to some extent with the Model 1877 (Lightning/Thunderer) and Model 1878, though neither was outstanding for reliability or durability.

If you mean "convert" as "something the average shooter can do to change a SAA type pistol to DA", the answer is no, unless you know something I don't. There would have to be too many changes and a large number of machine operations to alter the frame and manufacture the necessary new parts. And that would be after the design work.
