Convert SKS-D to stripper clip?

i wold like to get an SKS paratrooper that accepts the AK-47 mags, but i would like to convert it to the stripper clip with the possibility of converting it back to its original configuration in the future.

My reasoning for this:
i want to get into competitive shooting.
and i want to have a gun that i can take down on an afternoon and configure to either 10-rnd strip-load, or accept AKm loading.

i dont want to buy a strip-load gun and convert to AKm, that would not sit well with me. i've heard the horror stories about the gun being weak or not loading properly and it saddens me to hear about a nice little gun becoming a brick because some retard simply wanted to look badass with an AK mag hanging out of his gun.

I want a gun that is designed to do the job.

how easy is it to swap to a bolt with stripper guide?
how easy is it to put the 10-rnd well in?
i dont own one so i would like some advice before i go looking.

I don't quite understand what you are asking. Are you wanting to get an SKS-D (a SKS that accepts AK mags) and then convert it to use a ten round fixed mag?

That's like asking about getting a new AlienWare computer with the intention of running it with a CRT monitor and Windows 3.1.

The SKS-D has the best features of the SKS--better accuracy, stylish charm--and the best feature of the AK--detachable magazines.

I want a gun that is designed to do the job.

So buy an SKS that takes stripper clips from the get-go, and an SKS-D (if you can even find one) and your "conversion time" consists entirely of the thought "I think I'll use... this one."

Why in the world do you want to go from detachable mags to stripper clips, an idea that was nothing more than a stopgap while the detachable magazine was being envisioned? Why do you want slower reloading times, a more awkward system and movement, and a reduced capacity? This simply doesn't make any sense at all to me.

Maybe you should look into a vz 58.

Takes both high cap mags and clips.

Does the SKS-D lack the stripper clip guide in the bolt carrier? I thought they retained this. AFAIK you can load from the top with a stripper into the detachable mag.

Also, you can buy a smaller detachable mag for bench use.

However, I think a normal SKS would be much cheaper to buy and much easier to find for sale.

Not to be a downer, but an SKS is perhaps not the #1 choice for competetive shooting. They have good mechanical accuracy, but...I'll let others chime in as there is too much to say about why they are not optimal for competition level accuracy.

Yea the more i thought about it, im looking to be able to load a mag with stripper clips if i so desired.
Boy was I tired and useless when I was brainstorming that one!

So my new question is, do all the SKS-D's and the SKS-M's retain the original stripper guide?

I was just feeling nostalgic about my childhood.
We were 13 and my friend had an SKS. His dad bought him a whole case of stripper'd ammo for his B-day.
We sat in that field every day for a week shooting through that case.
Those were the days eh?

Many "pre-ban" (bayonet equipped) SKS-Ds came with intact stripper clip guides. Best to look at one of those or, better yet . . .

Maybe you should look into a vz 58.
