Or how our public officials are such good stewards of our taxes

The other day at lunch I was driving down the street. I hear loud noises and look up. Cop on top of donut shop is using bull horn to talk to traffic passing by. Can't understand anything he is saying but can hear noise. I look a little closer. There are FIVE uniformed cops on the roof of the donut shop, along with a similar number of cop looking people not in uniform. There are three marked squad cars in the parking lot, along with two cop motorcycles, plus a few unmarked cars in the lot that were parked in an odd way that made me suspect they were also cop cars. Also, local TV station is broadcasting from the donut shop parking lot.

There is a banner hanging from the roof of the donut shop. It says cop on top on it, and something about some charity. I guess it was some publicity stunt for a cop sponsored charity.

I have to wonder what having ten cops stand on top of a donut shop for several hours cost us taxpayers?

Wheres the little guy raising the BS emoticon? We need a little guy raising the BS flag emoticon. You're bs'ing. Come clean, you'll feel better.

Edited- Im kidding.

Agree. I am sorry but they should not be in uniform trying to advance some charity. City funds and equipment are owned by the taxpayers and should not be used for things of this nature.

What town was this if you do not mind sharing your location?

My guess would be zero dollars and zero cents - and depending on the charity, I might be all for it!

Well why are they using taxpayer equipment for their charity? I dont think it is alright at all.

Would it be ok to have them appear for an anti-gun charity? What if they were raising money for the Brady bunch? Sorry the governments agents should remain politically neutral.

Has it occurred to you that they might be raising money for a police charity?

Here in San Antonio, the firefighters stand at streetcorners - in firefighter garb - raising money for a charity to benefit fallen firefighters. They're working on their own time, for a noble, important cause - and nobody complains about what they're wearing.

A (slightly) similar thing last yr. I was on a major highway in a smaller city. They were stopping traffic so these gals with school crossing guards vests come to car window and want me to roll it down window. Seems they want to educate people about School Crossing guard duties/authority.
I called city Police about the DANGER this was. High School kids working traffic with lights. They said it was to make things safer so it was ok... :(

I have an idea. Instead of whining on the internet, why don't you get out your phone book and look up the non-emergency number of the police department? After you locate the number, it's probably in the government section, why don't you dial the number, ask to speak to the supervisor and ask what's happening?

Then after you find out what is happening, you can:
a) Go to your favorite internet forum where this subject would be on topic, and post the complete story so everyone will know what you are whining about and can make their own judgment as to if it is an issue worth whining about.

b) Contact your local elected representative and either complain about your tax dollars being wasted or thank him for keeping the department involved with the community (depending on what you think after you find out what's going on.)

Either alternative would save the staff at THR the trouble of closing this thread for being off topic as it doesn't address any RKBA or other civil rights issues.
