I can't wait 'til the next time a starling shows up in my yard. I will no longer stealthily snipe it with CB caps. No, I will covertly deanimate it.

The things a guy can pick up in a simple knife ad.

This tactical lingo stuff is so refreshingly unhyped. I can't wait to learn more. :)

Benchmade's copy text is pretty crazy too.

From the 2005 catalog:

An angular approach leads to blade geometry of monolithic proportion, and the Tanto is perhaps a misunderstood overachiever in efficiencies of cutting, too. Titanium liners up the ante in the patented modified locking-liner system.
Two modern tip designs tower like obelisks in an endless spew of would-be challengers.
Yeah, because I have to fight a spew of challengers with my monolithic blade and obelisk tip designs every day on my way to class. Good knives, but the copy writers need to lay off the psychadelic drugs. Do all blade makers hire the same insane copywriters?

If someone can tell me what this has to do with Strategies and Tactics or can suggest a forum it fits in, I'll leave it open and move it.

No humor allowed!!

It's the very latest in "tactical terminology" so naturally it belongs in the "tactical" area. At least to my way of thinking.

The particular knife ad I was referring to is so laced with state of the art euphemismistic tactical talk that it becomes a parody of itself. And I thought it was damn funny as a result. Did someone's ox get gored?

By all means, shut the thread down. We don't need any attempts at humor here.

Self defense through hyperbole. By the time you finish describing to a BG how you could covertly deanimate him with all the fancy features of your new blade, he'll be long gone.
Probably with your knife. And wallet.

The other day I had a crow in a lilac tree behind my house that I swear was as big as a chicken and could almost be a threat to my toddler. I wasn't sure that a CB cap could take it out and I didn't want to anger it, so I left it alone. I think I'll have to get one of those monolithic obelisk tantos and hone my mind and body to a diamond like edge as on the knife, then use mystic ninja skills to silence the evil that lurks in my suburban backyard.

All of these silly terms are being introduced and popularized by our favorite manufactures of cool toys. I think that knife manufactures are on the cutting edge (ha) of this. Clothing/gear manufactures arent far behind though (blackhawk anyone?). It really does make us look a little dumb to the normal people. Frankly, it makes other gun owners look a little dumb to me. I remember a time when the word 'tactical' had an actual meaning beyond being painted black and having all sorts of garbage attached to it.

My absolute favorite use of this nonsense is with regards to shotguns. First of all, how is ANY shotgun (or small arm in general) intended for defense NOT tactical? Today a 'tactical shotgun' means it has to be black and furnished with colapsable/folding stocks, and have whatever wacky sighting system that is popular that afternoon. Today i cannot even use the word 'tactical' in a sentance and expect it to be understood by the vast majority of the people i am talking to. Sadly enough it is my fellow gun owners that suffer from this the most, as it costs them money as well as their own dignity (due to the fact that they start to sound like utter fools).

It would probably fit in General Gun, or it could fit in here because it applies to many things in the gun culture beyond the firearms themselves.
