Cowboy boots and ankle holster?

I tend to wear cowboy boots at work, with scrubs. Are there any ankle holsters for Seecamp 32/380 or LCP that will work with a Cowboy Boots?

Anyone here tried it?

Sounds like you need to come up with a "custom" holster that will attach to the boot top that can be removed. Maybe a clip holster. Or a mid-calf rig...

In Arizona nobody wears cowboy boots...

But some that do have been known to clip an inexpensive IWB holster with a metal clip inside the boot top. Pick a model that has a thumb-break safety strap for extra security.

For ankle carry I've found that an elastic band type holster around the leg works better than one clipped to the boot. The weight of the gun causes it to move with every step, clipped to the boot it chafes the leg, attached to the leg/ankle it chafes the boot. My boots seem to handle this chafing better than my leg.

Well, I have experience wearing boots, anyway. I used to wear "Roper" style boots, like this:

A lot, I think, will depend on the height and stiffness of your boot top. Conceivably, you could use a IWB clip-on holster hooked over it. I did not find the uppers of that kind of boot very stiff, however, which would make the gun sway and flop around, although with a light gun you might get away with it; as well, the cowboy boot upper may be stiffer. An ankle holster that is designed to be worn low on the ankle is going to be nearly inaccessible with boots on, and the boot top may come up too high to allow room for a "mid-calf" rig.

Nurse I know in AZ prefers a molded pocket holster for her Kel-Tec. While you run the risk of getting 'boilogical fluids' on your piece when it's in your pocket in such a job--its far more accessable than in an ankle holster/boot top.

When I worked in Kentucky, I got almost the same comment from the auditors from Boulder, as I was wearing a pair of Tony Llamas - one said "we don't wear cowboy boots because we don't want someone to think we're from Kentucky". I answered "well, that's almost the same reason that we do wear them!"

All in good fun. (and, lest this "first post" raise eyebrows, I'm not new here - it's just been a long, long time and I'll be doggoned if I can remember my old nickname. It's good to be back, even as a newbie again!)

I have kept an LCP and often a knife clipped on the inside of my boot. Much easier than an ankle rig. The trick is finding some sort of rig that has a very low rise (the Kel Tec clips would work well I think)... many holsters rise too high and do not balance the pistol well inside the boot top.

Wouldn't it be really difficult to get to an ankle holster with those skin tight jeans "cowboys" wear? Just a tactically based question, not a critique of fasion.

I've never understood ankle holsters. Any gun small enough to be comfortably carried in one could also be carried in either a pocket or a belly band, either of which would be both more comfortable and easier to get to.

HGUNHNTR...Real "cowboys" don't wear tight jeans. They much prefer loose fitting for ease of movement and to ease swinging that other leg over the saddle. I'm not a real "cowboy", but I do have horses and wear Levi boot top jeans (loose fitting). I am but a Westerner (with horses) transplanted in Missouri.

I've never had much success carrying anything but the lightest of boot knives clipped to a boot top. Things flop around, the shaft of the boot gets scrunched from the weight of the weapon, access is slow. If the fashion was such that men wore higher boots and pants tucked into them, like in previous centuries, I might revisit the idea. For now, pocket carry, belly bands, and other options trump boot carry.

I would hate to know that I had to both depend on my boots to support the weight of even the lightest pistol and that I had to pull my britches all the way up to access it. Don't think it would be comfortable either.
