I've noticed that plated or jacketed bullets have a channelure instead of a crimping groove like a cast bullet. Do you roll crimp a channelure like a crimping groove? or do you have to taper crimp it? Thanks.

Roll crimp into the cannelure for jacketed bullets.

The "cannelure" on a plated bullet is generally just marks with no real indention to crimp into. Use a very light roll crimp or a taper crimp.

My revolver calibers, .357 & .44, have roll crimp dies. I have read elsewhere that you can do an acceptable taper crimp just using the body of the sizing die. This would remove the flare I suppose. Anyone tried this on cannelures or unmarked plated bullets?

What "plated" revolver bullets have a cannelure or crimp line??

If you roll crimp a plated bullet you will in effect make your own cannelure. Just do not go to heavy or you will crack through the plating.

At least three that I know of, the Powerbond .38 Spl 125 Gr HP and the X-Treme 158 Gr SWC, and the X-Treme .44 200 Gr RNFP.

Thanks. Not being a plated bullet shooter, the only ones I know are Berrys and Raniers.
