I am shopping for an inexpensive scope for my S&W Model 28. Does anyone have experience with a Crosman Centerpoint 2 x 20? (I'm asking because I can get this model from Home Depot because I have room on my credit card). It's got plenty of eye relief (20"). My concern is durability. Most of the customer reviews I've found indicate use on a 22 target pistol or similar. I'm worried that repeated recoil of a 357 (or even a 38sp) will jar the innards loose over time. Thanks for any replies!

If this is for hunting/plinking/target shooting, it would be an interesting experiment. It does say it's rated for spring-piston airguns, which can be pretty hard on scopes, so it might hold up to the recoil of a magnum pistol.

If it's for self-defense, it's not going to be a good idea. You're going to spend too much time looking for the reticle to make it a good proposition for rapid shooting.

The springer recoil is different from regular firearms so it might not stand up. I have no experience with this scope and can't say except it would be an inexpensive test to see if it does. Like already said, I wouldn't consider it for self defense.

Thank you, gents. It's strictly for plinking at the range. Think of it as an entry-level scope. If it turns out I really love having a scope on my 28 then I'll start looking at getting a used Leupold or Burris off ebay.

Probably better to think of it as an experiment than as a starter scope. You might only get one shot out of it, or it might be fine. Unless Crosman is willing to make some statement about its suitability for your purposes and back it up with a warranty (and they might--I don't know), it's a roll of the dice.
