I would like to explore the cross draw holsters for my Combat Commander that I CCW. I already have a Milt Sparks Summer Special that I love, but I find that when sitting down, to access the gun, I have to go through several gyration's that not only slow me down, but make it next to impossible to get the gun out when driving (clothes, and seatbelt ect).
If you're sitting down (car, restaurant, desk, recliner, bus ect) it is far easier and less noticable if you slip your right hand inside your jacket/shirt to "Fill Your Hand" than reaching back trying to get clothing/seat belt out of the way while trying not to look like you've been struck down with a case of the "Heebie Jeebies" What is the thoughts you guys have, and who makes a IWB cross draw holster?

who makes a IWB cross draw holster?

Andrews Custom Leather offer's their MacDaniel II in a cross draw version. I believe if they configure the holster for cross draw you can also convert it to strong side giving you a little extra flexibility as far as options go.

I don't know if the moderators will move this thread, but we do have a "Handguns: Holsters and Accessories" section that may get you more views and comments.

I started carrying crossdraw (both IWB and OWB) a long time ago for several reasons, not the least of which was because of less interference from my car's seat belt.

This may vary depending on your seat belt system.

IWBs make presentation a little more difficult simply because of the additional pressure on the holster from your pants belt.

A holster is a very personal thing, IMO, because not everyone carries exactly the same way, or draws the same way, or has the same shape around the middle.

Buy and try till you get the right one.

If drawing from the belt while seated in a vehicle is important to you, you may need to carry butt-forward on the side opposite your door, and draw with the palm facing outwards.

Yeah, I've got a boxful of holsters. I recently got a molded semi-retention one which is a bit of a pain to draw from. Too much grabbance from all the molding into the ejection port, the trigger guard, etc.

Looks fierce and all tactical-like and "perfeshinul," but I think before long I'm going to do something about ironing out all the snaggy indentations in the leather.

Or buy yet another one.

I could sell all the holsters I have by the pound if it came right down to it.

My best IWB so far is the Blackhawk. Looks like its made from neoprene with a nylon belt clip.

I was a bit skeptical about it, because I prefer leather with a retainer, but for semi-auto it works very well.

It's slim, easy to put on, easy to take off, comfortable, has excellent retention and also a very smooth and easy draw.

OCM What are you carry'n. You may have another good option that could work full time. For a OWB holster some cross draw rigs can be used on the strong side around a 2:00 position and offer easy sitting and draw no matter sitting or standing.

Here one that would work-

I had a local maker - Nelson Holster make mine and my wifes but wife "hold tight flap" on the rear. -

I also use a comp-tac minotaur neutral that is adjusted to get me a little rear cant and set high that work just as well in the same possition.

I carry X-Draw using the Safari-Land Model 18 laminate with felt ling. Two loop Adjustable cant for 1100-3:00+ positions. Good retention open top. Fast draw and accessible in the car and seated at restaurants/theaters, etc. I find it comfortable sitting walking running---most everything except tieing my shoes.
I don't know if they have one to fit your pistol. A LEO recommended it to me as durable and comfortable--all true.

I make crossdraw hybrids. Made a pair for a member here that carried a K-Frame I believe. Theres a review from Doc in the thread thats linked in my sig.

I wasn't clear on my carry gun. It's a 1911 Commander size, Colt, Kimber S&W. I prefer a IWB style, leather.

Having spent some years driving for a living I am a big fan of cross draw carry but with the holster in my waistband it's too uncomfortable when I am sitting behind the wheel and too hard to get to when I move the holster to where it's NOT uncomfortable. I finally started wearing a cross draw rig that is outside the waistband on a good belt. I imagine it would depend a lot on your build and how snug your pants fit.

I like cross draw, IWB or OWB, for comfort while seated, but on my skinny frame, it is not very concealable unless the cover garment is quite oversized, or I wear the rig so far to the rear that the reach to draw is longer than I like. I have opted for crossdraw positioned forward of the hip, for a second gun, when I could be a bit casual regarding concealment, such as long road trips, especially at night, or in foul weather, when a voluminous raincoat is the cover garment. ("Primary" is virtually always at 0300, though if wearing a 1911 crossdraw, the weapon at 0300 might be a small revolver.)

For a 1911, I have used Galco's excellent premium leather crossdraw holster, the name of which eludes me at the moment. (Cover Six?)
