Yes, there will be problems. You can buy a turkey barrel or you will end up with a VERY sensitive to loading short barreled 11-87.

Do your homework. Find the specifications in diameter of gas ports from an 1187 barrel in 21 inches. How does that compare with your barrel now?

I have an 1187 Police with an 18 inch barrel. Shoots what you feed it. I have always had a minimum of 1 oz loads with 3 1/4 dram eq. For Turkeys, you'd be using a stouter load anyway.

It isn't brain surgery, but just research it out first.
With 1187 barrels costing a few hundred, I would consider cutting mine also.

There are two different types of barrels for 11-87's. The 26" and longer barrels have the gas compensating system which make then able to shoot different types of shells. The shorter barrels don't have the gas system and just have two gas ports like the old 1100's.

The problem is when you cut down one of the longer barrels it messes with the gas system and might make it no work. If you want a shorter barrel you might want to think about getting a factory barrel. You could also sell your other barrel if you don't want it. They go for good $ on E Bay.

I agree with the suggestion of selling old barrel and getting a new factory barrel. I did the same thing looking to get a barrel with screw in chokes for an older 1100. I sold my old barrel on ebay and then bought a new one from Cabelas. After selling the old barrel, I think I came out of pocket about $70 for a new barrel.
