Cutts Compensator to remove or not?

Looking at that one tube I think it might be a choke tube for the Pachmayr PowrPak which was similar to the Cutts but the tubes go inside the choke body. Cutts also made an adjustable choke that screwed on the end of the body, worked like a Polychoke. I've studied and played with and even made choke devices for over fifty years and am still learning.

Well I had the new cutts barrel out shooting today. My pops and I threw some informal clays. The stubby barrel definitely doesn't swing as nice. If we were able to snap shoot clays up close we did ok but having to swing and follow them gave us troubles connecting. I thought it was a more jerky swing, my dad thought the blob of the cutts body was distracting, maybe a combination of both?

We swapped back to my 30 inch mod barrel and dusted many more clays each.

Overall I'm happy with the steal I got and it should be good for the grouse woods

I'd sell the barrel with the Cutts and keep looking for 26" IC or Remchoke ribbed barrel.

I am assuming if i cut the cutts off, a 21 inch barrel is going to swing poorly for grouse?

Not really; short barrels are good for grouse. Still, you'd be better off selling it to PapaG and getting a Remchoke barrel in what ever length you want.

From what I've read they aren't easy to remove other than chopping the barrel?

Not hard, but square up the barrel clean up the muzzle if you do. Again, you'd be better off selling it and getting what you want.

My other concern is that it's going to be much louder than a barrel of similar length? Or even louder than a shorter barrel?

Yes, it will be louder, but to the sides mostly. Don't shoot Trap with it, you'll make enemies. (Maybe that's why PapaG wants it....:p )

Once in a while, during our combo league, I will screw on a mod or full tube, warn the rest of my team, and shoot the trap half with my M12 Cutts gun. They love it. Scorers on both fields are so young it is a new thing for them. I just tell em its what their granddaddies used.
Yeah, I'd shoot it. Been trying to trade Simpson's in Galesburg out of an 1100 Coutts barrel for a couple years. He has a bunch of beater 1100s with cutts on consignment from a skeet club somewhere.
