A rifle that I have always liked, I have one coming later this week that I will refinish and will start shooting black powder again after a haitus of 20 yrs. Been doing alittle bit of research on CVA's mountain rifle online and it looks like there seems to be several versions of it produced in .45 & .50 cal. Early versions had the 4 screw patchbox and Douglas barrels, stamped Made in USA. Later versions had the 2 screw patchbox and Made in Spain (Jukar?) barrels, other versions include the kit rifles and the Big Bore rifles in .54 & .58 cal with no patchbox. There is mention that CVA produced these rifles from 1970's thru the 80's and re-introduced them in 2004. Does anyone have a timeline when all these versions were produced? Also did the 2004 rifle differ from the early ones? Thanks in advance for any information posted.

I have an older one with tiger maple stock and 4 screw patch box ...silver furnishings
I was told mine was an early one made in USA ....which it seems to be with its Douglas barrel . ( which is a real good round ball shooter by the way )
The lock on mine is stamped made in Spain ...I have heard this is common even on the US made rifles .
I haven`t done my homework on this one ..just enjoyed shooting it .
