Hi guys, this is probly a stupid question  , but here goes. I use an Inline 50cal Magnum Muzzleloader /w Sabets for hunting and was given a CVA Mountian Stalker 50cal Sidelock for my kid by a friend. he said that you only use patches balls in it & never use sabets is this true? :uhoh: and if so he said that 90 grans is the max charge to use. I am a Center fire nut myself and only have the inline to increase my hunting season. any help would be great, thanks :D

Scout Sniper,
First get over to the CVA website and order a manual for it I think they will send you one free. I have one in .50 caliber and accourding to my manual you can use sabots in them BUT you cannot use pelletized powder (ie, Pyrodex Pellets) they will not fire mostly because the CVA percussion and flintlock guns use a patent breech, a small chamber/cavity in the breech block (smaller then the bore size) where part of the loose powder goes to facilitate ignition of the main charge. Loading a powder pellet into this gun would make for a dangerous situation if the flame for a cap did make the approx. 1" travel to the back of the charge because of the gap left between the barrel and the breech cavity. Fortunately (but never say never) the flame does not reach that far and does not set off the powder pellet. Ball disgorger time.
