Were those 50 grain 777 pellets? That's a might hot for the gun. I load 70 grains 3F loose 777 in mine behind a 385 Hornady Great Plains and it shoots with plenty of power and 2" at 100 yards accuracy. I took a 5 point this year with it, but it was only about 30 yards. It's got PLENTY for 100 yards on deer or hogs, though.

I have been lusting after the CVA Wolf for a while now. I keep wanting to do a .22 LR conversion for one of the inline rifles. Ever since I got that converter in my remmy I've been a blackpowder rimfire addict. How accurate are those CVA Wolves anyway? What is the max charge I can use?

They advertize up to 150 grains, but I like to keep it to a lot less. 90 grains Pyrodex or 70 of 777 3F kicks pretty good. 150 might hurt ya. :D Best accuracy with mine is in the 2MOA range, WAY enough for deer, but I've seen one hole groups posted for the powerbelts on this site.

Sounds like a good rifle! I don't care if it's nothing like what the mountain man carried, or if it's big, black and ugly. Sometimes beauty is in the function. If something works really well it's beautiful. And if it shoots one hole groups then sign me up! ;)

80 grains of what kind of Pyrodex?
If it's not enough powder then it may not give the best accuracy.
Here's a range report showing phenomenal accuracy by a poster firing a 240 grain .44 XTP launched by 110 grains of Swiss 3FFF. That Swiss 3FFF is equivalent to a 10% heavier powder charge of Goex black powder.
That goes to show how some guns will perform their best with hefty powder charges of the best sporting grade black powder.
And the XTP's must have helped. :)

I have found that 80 grains of FFg Triple seven and a felt over powder wad works great with the Lee .50/320 grain REAL bullet in my CVA Wolf. This combo shoots 2" groups at 100 yards from the bench and flattens wild hogs with one shot.

Oh, yes, my REAL 360s shoot 2 MOA, also. :D The 360 imporved minie is a great bullet from Lee, too, when I can get pure lead. I've been hunting with the Hornady Great Plains because I don't trust my casting, yet, LOL. I had a batch of REALs go crazy, haven't quite figured that one out, yet, but wouldn't hit paper. I did something wrong because a previous batch was great.

I have a couple of traditional front stuffers, Hawken type rifles. What I like about the Wolf is the convenience. If I get home without shooting it, I don't have to shoot to unload, just pull the breach plug and knock the load out. It also makes for super easy swabbing at the range between shots. I do like my traditional sidelocks, though, but hunt with the Wolf mainly because my eyes work a lot better with a scope, especially in dim light.

Here's a CVA Plainsman I bought off Gunbroker for 80 bucks, fine bore, a little rough finish, but shoots good with PRB (1:48 twist), what I wanted it for.

I use Pyrodex RS, sorry to omit that, in my rifles. I just had the 3F 777 and tried it, worked, never bought 2F.
