Hello. I have a CZ-52 that I am giving extremely special treatment and had the thought of simply welding threading or some thing else to the existing barrel to add a flash-hider. Is this possible? I did some searching and couldn't find any threads similar to my situation but there was some discussion of welding barrel attachments on permanently to make them legal/etc but a flash hider is fine for a pistol. Any thoughts? I can provide some pictures if you're interested, it needs inner barrel work now but I've got it looking pretty sharp. I figure welding, if possible, would be cheaper than machining a new barrel. My neighbor has a torch, is that good enough?

No. The barrel doesn't protrude from the slide, so there's nothing to attach a flash suppressor to. A torch would probably ruin the heat treatment. And you don't want anything like that permanently attached since you wouldn't be able to field strip the slide.

It's going to be a project. For situations like this, it's sometimes possible to thread the barrel for a custom made sleeve. The sleeve extends through the slide, and the flash suppressor would thread into that. For when you aren't using it, you'd also want to make a thread protector for the barrel. If there isn't enough meat on the barrel for threading, you'd just turn it down just a little and probably silver solder the sleeve to it.

This sort of thing is really only done to attach a sound suppressor to a pistol that threaded barrels aren't available for. It's completely silly to do this for a flash suppressor, although it's your dime and your pistol.

Incidentally, there are threaded barrels for the CZ52 out there, but they are incredibly difficult to come across these days.

It might also be possible to attach a flash suppressor to the slide (or even the frame, but that would be a lot of work).

Bad idea to think of welding a barrel -too many possible failings of the steel and/or the safety, usability, and accuracy - besides, the great flash and roar of the CZ-52 are it's most redeeming features.
that pistol is fun to shoot -why would anyone want to lessen the fun?

I'm all about strategic advantage, so when I see the giant plume of fire I immediately think of hiding that report just as a soldier would desire to do.
I'm not interested in giving my position away with a giant fireball and I don't go to the range to shoot for 'fun'.

@kozak6 Yeah, it was just a fun thought. I know there are alternate barrels out there but they can cost just as much as the gun itself, which I cannot afford.
I did think about threading the barrel itself and putting a sleeve, that might work. I know that someone has done this before (maybe not welding) and they had a nice flash hider for their piece, I'll attach a pic of that.
The reason I'd rather just have a flash hider is so that I don't have to pay a $200 tax stamp for the suppressor, maybe when they become legal to own without doing that unnecessary stuff I'd switch.
Here are some pics:

P.S. Looks like there is enough 'meat' on the barrel or slide to do some thing with, what are your thoughts?
