CZ 527 Varmint Range Report

Armoredman, I agree. It is a really fun gun to shoot. My 30.06 is close in accuracy, but I don't shoot far enough to justify the recoil of shooting off multiple boxes at a time.

I forgot to mention that during my sight in and break in at the range, I was shooting next to a guy who was sighting in his 527m in 7.62x39. That gun balances well and is LIGHT - even with the 2-7x32 scope that he had on it. Talk about a "handy-carry-with-you-all-the-time-no-problem-forget-its-even-there-gun".

I put another 25-30 rounds through the rifle this last weekend and I tried out the following ammo at 100 yards:

The best by far was the Federal Premium 69gr Sierra MatchKing HPBT.

The worst was the BlackHills 60gr Hornady V-Max. I was really disappointed.

The WWB 5.56 55gr FMJ performed better than the VMax, but not as well as the MatchKing.

The worst was the BlackHills 60gr Hornady V-Max. I was really disappointed.

That is somewhat surprising that it was the worst, yet as you discovered each barrel has its own personality.

Glad you're enjoying your 527 anyway. Experimentation is half the fun. :)

Oddly enough, a few weeks ago I had some Sellier & Bellot FMJ 55grain (M193) shoot almost as well as the Black Hills, and better than:

Federal American Eagle FMJBT 55grain (AE223)
Remington UMC FMJ 55grain (L223R3)
PMC Bronze FMJ 55grain
Prvi Partizan HP BT Match 75grain

Yes! Trying to find the right load is a challenge. Since I don't reload (maybe someday), I have been buying a box of every kind of .223 imaginable.

I will try some Prvi HPBT and some Remington FMJ on my next range trip.

By the way, EAJ, I intend to give the V-Maxes a second try with a clean bore, but if they don't improve drastically, I will be looking for a buyer for the balance of the 50rd box.
