I just purchased a CZ 527M carbine in .223 I really like the handling of this rifle, light and nicely balanced. I was shooting it this weekend and my shots off a rest were below my point of aim. I checked in the supplied instruction manual which states the front sight blade needs to be changed. This must be info from an earlier model,as mine has a fiber optic front sight. It looks like it uses the same sight as the CZ 557 Lux. In that rifle's manual it states elevation is changed by using the two set screws in the front of the sight base, without any other explanation. Can anyone with this type of sight give any insight or instructions on how to adjust using the said set screws?
Thanks

I bought my 527 carbine two years ago, unless something has changed I don't think that the front sight is adjustable. If it's like mine, there should be a spring loaded cylinder in front of the sight, depress that and slide the sight forward to remove it and see what's under there. Any action you can take to move the sight downward will raise the POI. For what it's worth, my carbine is extremely sensitive to ammo choice, some loads shoot four inches or more from one another.

I did not like the stock sights; I ditched the hood, removed the front bead, and removed the notch sight on the barrel. I added a rear peep and Patridge post from New England Custom Gun. Cost me $140, but now I'm happy with the sights.

Thanks Corn-Picker, Yours is as shown in the manual. This one doesn't have the spring loaded detent on the sight base. It has a red fiber optic sight with 2 small allen screws recessed in the front of the base

The latest 527s (past few months production) with iron sights have a new/upgraded sight set. I haven't seen one myself, but have seen photos and non-detailed summaries of how they work. The new ones are different from the prior version, and the rear sight is mounted further forward on the barrel which will allow a longer scope to be mounted low and behind the rear sight.
A little bit of info in this thread: http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=929801&highlight=

Thanks for the update, it looks like the new rear sight base is screwed onto the barrel, whereas mine is part of the barrel forging. The sight radius shrunk a little bit as well.

Yes, that would be little bit of a negative for iron sight shooting, all else being equal. I'd like to try one of the new styles to see how the combo works with my eyesight. I like the old style well enough, but I tend to keep a scope on my only 527 with open sights (an FS in .223).

My front sight is fixed on my 527's if i remember correctly. All 3 (carbine, american, varmit) are definitely diff from your front sight. If you havent already i would try a few diff loads and figure out what POI is on the better shooting loads. It may be that it shoots closer to POI than what you have tryed. Im at work but when i get home ill have a look at my sights and see if i can help. Is your rear sight windage only?

Good suggestion. I've noticed that my 527s may shoot quite different POI depending upon the ammo.

My American (in 204 Ruger) shoots Hornady 40gr Varm Express over 3" diff from the 32gr of the same exact line.

If his Carbine was in something like 7.62x39mm it might not change the POI a whole lot but in 223 Rem where its ez to find 40gr-75gr loads its pretty common for POI to change a decent amount. Not that it has to be diff wts for POI to shift, diff brands and lines can vary impact point but its more prone to happen with large differences in bullet wt imho.

Id try some diff wts and see what hits where.

Thanks for the advice.
Sent an email to CZ USA asking for instructions on new style iron sights.... No reply yet.

I tried some different rounds and you guys are right, variations in POI. I fitted some Leupold 54360 ring mounts and a Leupold 1-4 x20 scope I had. I looked down the barrel to roughly zero it. Not a lot of added weight and didn't overwhelm size wise. I then found out what an amazingly accurate carbine the 527 is. I was using some of that purple box Winchester 62gr OTM and set the target at 25 yds. 5 rounds got it smack on. The next 25 rounds went through a 1.25" diameter hole in the target center. If there were any fliers they were really off as there were no other holes in the 2.5' x 4' cardboard backing. It shocked my 65 year old eyes.
