I have a CZ 75 Semi-Compact that I have had for a couple of years. I really, really like it. I have been shooting it in IDPA (SSP and ESP) and USPSA (Production and I may start shooting it in Limited).

When I first got it I bent the Magazine break out of the way and it worked pretty well; however, in the last match I shot it in I had lots of problems with the break. I pulled it off yesterday. Do I need to get the flat spring or is it ok to have nothing there?

Nope... that break isn't going back in. I was a little aggressive when it came out so it is pretty bent up. I can order a flat one that doesn't act as a break for 10.00 plus shipping.

You need it to guide the mags into the frame...order the flat one. Especially for competition. Youll shove a mag in the wrong way and it will catch on the sharp parts in the frame without it.
Shoot well and god bless

Cz Mag Brake/ Spring Steel With Raised Bend

Newguy1 You need the mag brake for both mag insertion and protecting the mainspring.
I've modified my CZ75B mag brake with no problems. On the CZ forum this is all discussed at length.
I have a guess about yours. You need to remove, flatten and refit it back in place.
Like you said the brake is a piece of steel with a bend in it to trap the mag. You need to remove the brake and gently hammer it flat When you flatten a bent piece of steel IT GETS LONGER. The small coil of steel at the bottom of the brake is held by the mainspring lower pin. After you flatten it it may not fit. I know of two choices: 1. Most just cut off about half of the bottom loop. You only need enough of the loop left to to go behind the pin so it cant fall out. That will hold it in place. OR
2. You can Dremel about 1/16" off the 'shoulders' just above the looped end, and then just tighten the loop enough to shorten the overall length to fit with a pair of needlenose pliers.
This is all easier than I'm making it sound. Look at your pistol breakdown and you can see the plate with loops at the end and the mainspring pin that holds it in place.
If you haven't completely removed the brake before: I pulled the grips off, removed the lower mainspring pin (be careful it's under tension), then push-pull bow and jiggle and the top loop will come off the upper pin. Then do one of the above procedures and it'll work perfectly.
CZ will sell you a flat one if you want to go that route.
Good luck.

I just broke down and bought one from Angus Hobdell along with some of of the Aluminum grips... they just looked really cool. I have to say that the mags dropped much easier with no break in there (even when it was bent out of the way.)

I haope the no break version I got is as smooth as not having any thing there is.

Aluminum Grips

Those grips DO look slick. Let us know if they are thinner for us small handed guys.
