I really don't need another handgun in this borderline useless calibre (I already own a KT P-32 and a Serbian surplus Zastava Model 70) but here is AIM SURPLUS selling CZ-83's in .32 (probably Czech police trade-ins) for about $ 240.

Still, 15 rd capacity by a name brand manufacturer in what looks to be a rugged, compact package? Could be a good "beater" gun (what I use my Z for).

Any opinions on this pistol? Anybody is welcome to talk me out of it. :D

I'd go for the CZ-82 in 9x18 first if they still have any left. CZ-83 .380 mags work fine with 9x18 in the CZ-82.

Can you get extra mags for the .32ACP? Most autoloader problems end up being magazine problems so I always worry about guns with hard to get magazines.

OTOH, CZ makes great guns, if you are filling out a collection, why not!

They may prefer European ammo (S&B) to US... the 15rd mags are sold as 12rd-ers - CZ Forum has info on what the number is for 15rd mags. If memory serves, it's 11303.

I want one m'self. If somebody wants a gun upwards of .22 with little/no recoil, it ought to serve.

I bought one of the CZ-83 .32s that AIM Surplus is offering.

The gun was received in basically as new condition with only minor scuffing on the grips.
Compact is not one of this pistols traits, it is bigger than my Glock 26 and almost as large as my Glock 19.

Spare magazines are impossible to find right now, I have some on order with CZ-USA with no definite delivery time.

The pistol is accurate and reliable but felt recoil is actually more pronounced than I expected it to be and My Glock 26 is more comfortable to shoot.

I collect .32acp pistols and can justify my purchase as an example of one of the last of the .32 acp designs.

I also seem to have an inexplicable fascination for the .32 ACP even though I feel like The Shootist does about this caliber: It's next to useless. My current fascination is the .32 (7.65) Browning BDA that Southern Ohio Gun offers, which is pretty steep at $475!

It's about halfway down this page, rich guys! ;)

So do I - in spite of the fact that I've got a 1911 in .45. Still - the low penetration of .32 might have a place for apartment dwellers - with the 83's high capacity, might be a good weapon for 'em.

What .32 BDA? Can't find this at CDNN. What page from the catalog?

McCall911,

No caliber is "next to useless"...only the SHOOTER of any caliber is "next to useless"...and there are plenty of the latter, lots of them to be found even in online gun forums.

Happy New Year,

Oops! Beg your pardon, it's Southern Ohio Gun, about half the way down the page:

And I have been described not as next to useless, but as useless. I hope I have set the record straight on this matter. :D

Go ahead...buy one

McCall911, Thanks for the correction. SOG has scared me off from any more dealings with them due to some bad experience. But, that looks like an unusual find albeit at a price.

The_Shootist, The CZ83 in .32 is a fun gun to shoot with. The ergonomics are great, the accuracy surprisingly good, the trigger excellent in SA and the 15 round mag has capacity rare in this caliber. The mags are hard to find although they appear from time to time...I have four. I did have some rim lock issues. Shorter rounds can get tangled up. The Mag is generously sized for ball ammo.

I bought mine new for around $340. A used one at $240 would be a good deal if it's in good shape. These are ruggedly built guns, meant for duty, not plinking, so they should hold up well. It is a very enjoyable gun to shoot. Recoil is mild.

Two thumbs up.
