Here's the deal: I have a CZ 452 Varmint in .17HMR. I am looking to buy another bolt action rifle in .22mag. It will probably be either a CZ 453 Varmint or Savage 93 with stainless steel bull barrel. I love my CZ because it is extremely accurate and well-made. However, I also like rifles with stainless stell metal. The Savage 93 has a stainless bull barrel and either a thumbhole laminate or synthetic stock. Therefore, I have a dilemma. Can I expect the same accuracy and reliability out of the Savage that I have already received from my CZ? I am kind of torn because I know that the Savage will also cost less. I have heard good things about both rifles and experienced them firsthand with my CZ. I just don't want to get the Savage and then end up wishing I had bought another CZ. Please let me know. Thanks.

I've got the CZ in .17hmr and I had a stainless Savage in the same chambering. Accuracy is about the same between them. The Savage didn't feel quite as refined though.

I've shot my savage with guys who had CZs, and didn't give up anything in accuracy. I have to ask though, what is a 22mag going to do for you that a 17 won't?

About $4-$8 less a box. Which is why I'm down to one HMR (or in the process of) and up six WMR's. (All CZ's and Brno's)

I want a .22mag. Please just answer my question and do not turn this into a caliber war. Thanks.

I love my CZ because it is extremely accurate and well-made. However, I also like rifles with stainless stell metal. Based on the above the only thing you need to decide is stainless barrel more important than everything else you have experienced with your current CZ rifle...seems to me you have answered your own question.... I love my CZ. And by the way I agree with you...I love my CZ. VERY ACCURATE.

I own a CZ rimfire and have shot a Savage rimfire many times. Shooting at the normal distances you would shoot a rimfire at, I honestly feel they are about the same, unless you're hoping for Olympic competition grade accuracy (in which case neither will do, really). But where they differ for me is in the feel. The CZ rimfire's just have that quality, centerfire rifle feel to them. Savages just feel a little less well made. I'm not saying they are, just one man's opinion. For their price, however, they do shoot very well.

Savage make a good rifle. While examples do vary, their bores seem to be rougher than some other manufacturers, so they tend to accumulate metal fouling a bit more readily. However, they shoot exceedingly well.

I don't think you will go wrong with either one. I have a CZ 452 and I have a Savage Model 12 and both of them are tack drivers. From an accuracy standpoint I believe you will be happy regardless of which you choose. I would touch and feel both and go with the one that feels the best in your hands.

That's it. You'll get nearly identical accuracy and reliability from the two - the only difference is the looks/finish/refinement of the CZ over the Savage. Get the one that appeals to you the most.

"I just don't want to get the Savage and then end up wishing I had bought another CZ."

Albert Einstein said every question contains its own answer - there ya go!

You should be happy with either one. You sound like you want a cz though. If you want a cz, get a cz. If you want a savage, get a savage. You're going to get great accuracy with either of them. The cz MIGHT be a little bit smoother and/or better fitting, but accuracy wise, they'll be pretty much the same.

I hear most people sum up savage by sayin "savage=ugly and accurate as heck," but that's subjective, considering a lot of them now are good lookin and you MIGHT get a lemmon, but that's the same w/ any other brand

get the one you want, they're both great

Karnaaj: I didn't think so, considering he's asking about rifles and not calibers. He obviously has his mind made up about the one but not the other.

A little curt (definition #2), maybe. But what the hey, life is short. :banghead:

I have the Savage in both .22lr and .223 with the Acu-Tirgger and they are both amazing. The Acu-Trigger sets them apart in a very positive way.
