D guard Bowie kit..?

So, KnifeKits has a Harvey Dean design D guard Bowie kit available and part of me wants one to build, (that's the part that still has a weakness for redheads..) but the other part, (the old,happily married for 30+ years part..) says D guards are impractical and not useful so save your time and money.
Any thoughts or "advice"..?

They are interesting, but impractical (unless you are a confederate reinactor). Most D guard "bowies" ended up tossed in a ditch during the civil war.

Yeah that's what I read as well. Meh.. I mean if hso says it's not worth it.
I've already got one big Bowie blade to get around to finishing anyway.

Ohhhh, I didn't say it wasn't worth it in an abstract sense. And I have a couple of Harvey Dean bowies that have great lines.



OTOH, 9Cr13CoMoV (440C-ish) isn't anything to get excited about except in a display piece.
