Dan Wesson 15-2 versus Ruger Speed-Six

I was having a friendly debate on .357 Magnum revolver durability the other night. The issue of the 1980'ish, Monson made Dan Wesson 15-2s and the 1980'ish Ruger Speed-Six came up. I have a sweet DW with the 4" and 6" barrels and two of the Speed-Sixes with 2 3/4" barrels...one blue the other stainless. So, I win in either direction. None of the three would I ever part with. They each have their pros and cons. And, I can't ever see wearing them out even with a steady diet of factory .357 Magnum rounds.

Anyway, any opinions? Maybe I am too attached to these guns to see any major flaws with them. Kind of like a father and his children...ha ha.

I can't think of anything wrong with either. I've never owned or shot the Dan Wesson 357, but I've owned a couple of their 22's. Good guns. I have owned a few Speed/Security six's. They're a little smaller than the Dan Wesson I suppose, it's been a while, but I wouldn't part with either of them now. (I was young and stupider when I did a lot of gun trading in the past.)

If you ever want to get rid of the Dan Wesson PM me!!! I had a Monson made DW and sold it years ago and can kick myself for ever selling it. Come to think of it, PM me is you want to sell the Speedsix as well. I guess my underlying msg to you is to tell me to take a hike and keep both of them.

Dan Wesson's are beautifully made and accurate.

The thing that drives me crazy is the location of the cylinder release

If you remove the rear sight of a DW model 15 you will see that the frame is rather weak in that area. Model 14 is stronger.

I was told that the release was at the front of the cylinder on purpose to help the cylinder to forcing cone alignment and make for a tighter lock up. You are right though. I does take some getting used to and makes opening the cylinder with one hand darn near impossible.

IF we are voting, I go for the Dan Wesson.
Pick a single unit vs. single unit it may well be a tie in accuracy, but, I've seen more SS's that I would not want than DW's. Granted there are likely 25:1 more SS's out there so that tends to sway the results.

I love my DW Monson 15.
I'm not sure which is better, but I know that the one I have I like a lot.

I have a DW 357 VH6 that I go to bed at night with instead of S&W 1006, 610, 642 or my Glock 29 so yes I do like the gun and can out shoot my S&W 610 with it. And it is simple to completely disassemble and clean. Nothing like cleaning the gun barrel with it off the gun, no crap up over the forcing cone to spend a bunch of time cleaning.

Sure would like to come across a nice DW 22 for sale that would be a nice shooter. I would shoot the 357 mag more, but even hand loading it is getting a bit expensive shooting.
