LGS has a 6" DW in 22lr. Very good shape. Passes revolver check out. It's on consignment for $400 and they don't budge consignment prices. What's everyone's opinion of it as a firearm and asking price. I had a 617 for a while and regret selling it. It spit lead so it wasn't a complete loss.

I can't tell you if that is a fair price today or not. I do know that Dan Wesson makes great revolvers, they also don't make new ones anymore. The 22lr is hard enough to find and is only going to get harder.

I would buy it at $400.

I know they've changed hands over the years. Are there certain ones to avoid or certain ones with more "collectivity"? Any known issues?

Dan fan here, own a 357 and a 22, and for $400 I'd be all over it.

If you're a "hacker", a DW is very interesting - if you're a "user" you may not be quite as happy. But it's not a bad price for a good revolver. IMHO, of course, and this is worth exactly what you paid for it!

Mine shoots pretty good so I can't complain. I like it. 50 shots per target, 15 yrds offhand.

I would buy another if this one were stolen.

I've had three Dan Wesson 22 revolvers over the years. About the only thing "wrong" with them, is they are heavy for a 22. After all they are built on a 357 frame, with smaller holes in the barrel and cylinder. They're bigger than a Smith & Wesson K-frame, closer to the size of the L-frame I believe.

But they are great shooters. All of mine have been "Monson guns" or made in the Monson, Mass. plants. My understanding is those are generally considered "best". (DW made revolvers in other places over the years).

I'm far from an expert, but the last two I bought I paid $400.00 for, and got more when I sold them.

$400 is below market for a Dan Wesson model 22, unless it's in really bad shape, I would suggest you buy it.

Buy it as it is priced very very right. If you don't love it you should have no problem moving it.

>>About the only thing "wrong" with them, is they are heavy for a 22.<<

That was my complaint as well. To me it was way too much gun for a mere .22, so I sold mine off. That being said, it's a quality firearm and $400.00 would be a great price for one in good condition.

Is a S&W Model 17 (or 617) too much gun for a .22? Not in my opinion, and neither is a DW 22 (or 722)

Not a bad buy for a nice monsoon mass DW 22 but the down side is , It will not take long for you to want a 357 version . They are the best production revolvers you can buy. there also a good aftermarket following beside over priced CZ there EWKarms for ablut anything stock and upgraded in metal and L B Custom for everthing in wood grips.

I'm sad to say my hesitation caused me to lose out on the Dan Wesson. Definitely kicking myself now!

Too bad. I was about to chime in you can't go wrong with any DW under $500 as a general rule.

I picked up my FIRST Dan Wesson 357 recently and I am in love. My wallet is in fear. My wife is in ........... for a shock ;)

Great .22 revolver for $400 in VG condition.
Especially as a warm up revolver before shooting the 15-2, to save ammo, get used to the weight, sight radius...

I like shooting .22s first... the 617 before the 586 both 6", full under lug, the 18 before the 19, 4"ers ... the DW model 12 before the 15-2, 6"ers.
Getting the same grips for each set is a big help.

I think you were smart to get info before purchase.
I much prefer the money saved after doing a little research than I miss the guns that got away .
Hope you find what works for you, keep looking!!

Not to throw salt in your wounds, but I picked up a 90% condition (would be PERFECT if not for a bit of muzzle wear) Model 22 6VH for $500 today.
