Aaack.

So far I've replaced the hand spring (twice), the bolt spring (once).. now the guldurned bolt itself broke. Incidentally, the hand looks like a piece of scrap metal picked off a shop floor.

I don't suppose there's anyone out there who makes decent replacement innards for these things? Or shall I just check Brownells and the like for Uberti parts. (Or are the Uberti better enough to make it worth looking for those?)

It's a repro Colt 1860, for what it's worth.

Thanks!

When you have problems with black-powder guns go to Dixie Gun Works in Union City, TN. Their web site is at: www.dixiegunworks.com, and a 700 + page catalog still only runs $5.00.

They carry an extensive selection of parts for both original and reproduction cap & ball revolvers.

A music wire spring can be used to replace the factory bolt spring, and it's unlikely to break. The frame can be modified by simply drilling a hole, and thereafter you use a coil spring and plunger to tension the hand - and it's unlikely it will ever break. Cylinder bolts usually break because of bad fitting as well as poor material and heat treating. Uberti (now part of Beretta) makes a better quality revolver, but I'm not sure the parts will interchange with guns made by others. The folks at Dixie would probably know though.
