In a 1993 'Dateline NBC' report on the safety of General Motors pickup trucks, in which the producers rigged a truck explosion, an investigation led to the resignation of the president of NBC News and other employees involved in the story and GM winning a lawsuite against NBC for the "dramatized" footage.
In 2004 while discussing the AWB network and local news organisations are airing footage of the LA bank robbery where fully automtic weapons were used by the criminals.
Is there any fundamental difference between these two jounalistic deceptions? Neither one reflects the whole truth. Both intend to mislead the public by "showing" the viewers a frightningly dangerous situation that is intended to illustrate how dangerous these 2 things are to the public, but neglect to point out that they are not accurate representations of what really happened. Yes, the crooks as shown did lay down a hail of automatic weapons fire killing people, but they did not use semiautomatic "assault" weapons to do it. Just as NBC's truck exploded due to the incendiary devices placed on it instead of the side collision.
