The attached pictures are examples of the brass fired from my Taurus PT1911. As you will see in the pictures, the brass has an impression/dent at the bottom after being fired. I just noticed this after going to the range this weekend. The Winchester brass was from this weekend and the federal brass is from one 1 year ago. A total of approx 350 rounds have been fired through this gun. What is/could be the cause of the marks on the brass?

are those handloads? from the cratering on the primers it looks like they are
too hot, or you have some type of lube in the chamber

A-fixer has it.

This mark happens when the slide catches a round and pushes it out of the mag.

It is interesting to realize how little of the case protrudes into the slide's path. No wonder improperly seated mags or mags with weak springs result in failures to feed...the slide rides right over the next round.

In the second picture, it looks like firing pin drag at about 9 o'clock on the case. Is your chamber free of oil?

These were factory loads. Im not sure whats up with the firing pin mark on the 2nd brass. I'll take a look at the other brass casings from that day and see if it shows up on others. Thanks for all of the replies!

The edges of the primers are still nicely rounded.

The cratering is more likely from an oversize firing pin hole.

1911Tuner wins the cigar, again!

Bad breechface machining is making the mark when the round is fired.
In otherwords, the breachface isn't perfectly flat clear across like it is supposed to be.

The slide certainly does not hit the case hard enough during feeding from the magazine to put a dent in the brass!

If it did, all 1911's would mark the brass, and they don't.
