A friend gave me an old Springfield derringer 2 shot .38 special. I replaced the very old ammo after cleaning the gun. He said he couldn't remember if it was the top or bottom rnd that didn't fire so I took it out and gave it a try. I know virtually nothing about derringers. (except I like the look of Bond Arms guns) Anyway I pulled the hammer back and fired. Got a surprise because both rounds fired. Glad I had a good hold on it. But after that only the bottom chamber fired. My question is, would it be worth it to take the gun to a gunsmith for repair? I do plan on buying a Bond Arms .45/410 Texas Def anyway.
I took a closer look....it's not a "Springfield" as I was told. The chrome plating job is lousy. The only thing I can make out other than the .38 spec. derringer is what looks like FTE (but I can't be sure). But I won't be firing it again.

If he's not using it for defense, then why not get it repaired? It's not like every gun in your safe has to have a purpose.

What do you mean worth it? If it has sentimental value, sure. If you're planning on reselling it later, don't bother. I'll agree with Justin that you shouldn't use it as a defensive pistol of that's what you were thinking.

No...I wouldn't trust it as a carry anyway. (when I get the Bond arms derringer it will be used as a back up) I've been given several guns by my friend, including the old 1888 Merwin Hulbert .38 I'll just put it away with the rest of those. It would most likely cost more to fix than I'd wanna pay. I've got plenty of guns that work just fine. I was kinda hoping it would be a quick & easy fix. Thanks.
