So I think I found a good deal on Detonics pistols...All models that they list on this site are new, and $699.00...Not really up on them, as far as their more recent offerings...I know the company went under, and was bought out by
Jerry Ahern, I believe, but after that...I'm not sure about quality control, etc.
Anyway, someone catch me up to speed...I know they were great handguns
at one time(by reputation).

Yeah, the older ones had quite a rep...i just don't know about the current
stuff...Hoping someone had some input...

Company went under a couple times These are the Ga guns. I would guess and that be Jerry Ahern, company . Don't know if new company in IL selling any yet. Mine is a old Washington state pistol and has been a great pistol But the Colt Defender is better and lighter for just a little more if you shop Defender gets the carry more than Detonics these days

The pictured guns look as if they were made from high-carbon steel and Parkerized, as most if not all of the earlier Detonics pistols were. But the ones made a few years ago by a company ramrodded by Jerry Ahern were stainless steel, and very well made. I would e-mail the company in your link and ask who made the guns they are offering, and when. I suspect they are of more recent production, but I haven't noticed any news on the Internet that I would expect.

Detonics pistols were always made by small companies that were undercapitalized, and frequently went broke. Quality was inconsistant. The "Ahern guns" were made on new and much better tooling.

There is an old saying in the industry that, "Companies come and go, but tooling goes on forever." Jerry's version of Detonics pistols were expensive, but they had zero MIM parts in them.

I've got one of the stainless Detonics 9-11-01s that were made in Georgia. It's one of the best pistols I've ever owned - remarkably accurate and very, very well built. Can't say enough good stuff about it.

I have an OLD no letter prefix on serial # wash state combatmaster It stays in safe. I would like to have another to carry, I have several compact 45's

Well, I had one in about 1978 (?). That was the pistol that made me decide that .45 ACP out of a gun that small was not reliable. I (or two different gunsmiths) could not get it to feed / eject on a regular basis.

I am sure that they, and others of the type have come far in the last 30 years. But that one left a mark on me...
