I have a new 270 Win in stainless and I want to purchase the correct diameter cleaning rod. I will purchase a bore guide (suggestions welcome as I have already read a lot, thinking Possum Hollow or Mike Lucas).

I have used coated Dewey in the past with other guns and have had good luck (but suggestions again welcome).

Should I purchase the 27 Cal. & Up or should I go smaller (.22-.26)?

Many thanks for any input your can give me.

I have two rods. One doesn't fit inside my .270 barrels, so... I don't use it in those rifles. I've had no problems with the smaller rod. I'll buy the .27 Caliber and up rod if this little one ever craps out.

For what it's worth...I use the same rod on mine and my daughters .270 that I use on my .22's. With the right attachments, it works fine.

I really like the tipton carbon cleaning rods myself. I haven't tried the dewey rods though.

.22 rod ---just use larger patches and brushes for the .270---take the bolt out and clean from the rear---don't waste your time with bore guide bovine scat.

Sweets 7.62 will get the copper out ---Break Free or any ol solvent will work for the the rest---I don't even use brushes anymore---just patches.

Cleaning is quick--easy---and shouldn't be over done.
