3" S&W 686 Holster...... What do you use?

Hey all,

I recently picked up a S&W 3" 686+ TALO, put some Badger Grips on it, and really like the way the gun shoots, handles, and looks. I will be carrying it in the field on day hikes and such. Nothing hardcore, and no predators here bigger than a mountain lion.

I like carrying in leather, on the hip, low on the leg, and out of the way. I did a search on here, and saw a few options. I also did a Google search and came across Diamond D Custom Leather. Their products look really nice, but also spendy.

So before dropping the money, I was wondering if anyone has had experience with these folks and can comment on the value of the product.

So basically this holster for this gun, and in black, since I always wear a black belt. I think it looks pretty functional for day hikes. I also think the red Badger Grips will look pretty nice with a black holster, though utility is much more important to me.

What do you think? What do you use?

It looks good. Now days I have trouble with a hi-rise carry because of a shoulder injury so I am interested in just such a holster. I wonder if the cartridge loops would get in the way of drawing? I also would be interested if anyone has any experience with this rig.

I have the guides choice chest holster from Diamond D which is what I use to carry my S&W 629 while i'm in the woods of Alaska. My holster has excellent workmanship and haven't heard any complaints from others other than the cost vs other manufacturers.

Yeah, this configuration with a 7 shot reload would cost me $180....... I don't mind if it's going to last me a lifetime. It's still a fair amount of money though, and I'm not rich.

The cool part is I traded two guns I didn't care about any more for it, and a Ruger SP101 in .22lr., and 300 rounds of CCI Mini Mags. The entire deal cost me $68. So then I sold off all my .223 ammo and accesories from the old gun, and I made $250 on that deal. Which coovered the $68 and the cost of the Badger Grips on it and the Ruger.

That was a fun day......

I have found a less expensive solution for me. When I bought the Simply Rugged pancake I also got the straps and holes in the holster. With the straps in place and worn on the outside on the belt the butt of the gun is just enough low enough below the belt for a comfortable draw. The straps are for a IWB carry but this works for me [the 629 is not as tight but for my walks it is fine.
