Completely forgetting the fact that I had a box of 64gr sp in the same drawer as all my 55gr sp I started loading up some rounds. Using 25.5gr of varget I reloaded 100 rounds and quit for the night. When I got back to my bench I luckily looked at the empty box and noticed it was 64 and not 55 that I had used. Went to Hodgdon's website and saw that with a 63gr bullet I could go as high as 26.4gr of Varget. I could find no data for a 64gr bullet. I think I'm safe firing these rounds rather than pulling the bullets and starting over but I wanted to check with you guys first.

Assuming this is .223 Rem, StevesPages.com gives 27.2 grains Varget as the max for 60-63 gr bullets and 26.4 gr Varget as the max for 68-70 gr bullets.

If it was me, I'd shoot them from my AR w/o a second thought. I used to load 60 gr varmit bullets with 25.0 gr Varget and they were very accurate loads with no sign of pressure at all.

You usually use less powder with a heavier bullet than for a lighter bullet so I would say you are safe. According to the below data the charge you used is above the minimum and below the maximum for all the bullets above and below the weight of the bullet you are using. As a matter of fact the charge you used is right in the middle of the recommended min-max for the 63gr bullet. (almost exactly the bullet you are using) I really wouldn't worry about that charge. You might be supprised and find it's more accurate than the load you usually use!!

i accidently did this one time w/ 2 different weight v-max bullets. turned out to shoot pretty decent actually. worked well enough for p-dogs that were w/in 175-200 yds.

^^^ Yeah, tack driver would be really interesting, lol, as would a 3000 fps bullet that stayed near that velocity all the way out to 1000 yards. I'm still dreaming I'll find one of these combinations, and then I'm praying I know it when I do.

You caught, good job. Update your notebook. What if you found a magic recipe and entirely missed why only certain "55 grainers" shot like (magic or poop) and couldn't explain it.
