I know I'll need a shell holder for the AR. With bullets with a crimp groove would I need to Roll crimp them. If so who makes a roll crimp die for the 45 AR?

I wanting to try some 250-255 gr bullets for my 45 acp revolvers. I thought I'd use the AR to keep separate from my 45 acp loads. Not any moster loads so I'll try the taper but don't know about the bullets with a crimp groove.

Hornady 45 dies cover the acp, AR, and Win. The dies have a roll crimp so if you need to do a taper crimp you need to buy that die separate. As far as shell holder you need to look it up for the brand your looking at. Not all mfg use the same numbering system.

I've used the 45 acp taper crimp die. It will close the mouth up enough to use the crimping groove. Some times you may need to leave the bullet a little farther out.

I've been using 45 auto rim cases for years. My seating/crimp die has a roll crimp which I very lightly apply.

That Redding Profile Die sounds like what I'm looking for.Like I say no big loads just wanting to see what a 250gr 45 AR is all about. If I like them I may step up the loads and was worried about the crimp groove on the bullets.

I have been using the same set of Lee 45 Auto dies for Auto and AR for more than 15 years, just changed shell holders. I shoot both in my Colt New Service and the taper crimp works well for both. BUT, I don't shoot jacketed or plated bullets, just my own hand cast using my own formulation of a soft alloy, works very well.

For bullets, use 45 Colt. Then you have a crimp groove. For shell holder Lee shows their R13, fits the 45 AR only.

I just bought a Redding profile crimp die and one of these days when I got 20 min for myself I'll set it up in the 650. Redding shell holder #17 or RCBS #8 for a single stage.
Come to think of it I've been casting some 250 gr hp maybe I'll put a few together, they'll be fired in a 625.
