After putting on a long overdue stock (which conveniently came without a bolt) for my PGO mossberg, I decided to do one more change. I really have seen no point to the heat shield the gun came with. Its ugly, didn't keep me from burning my hand cause I'm not stupid enough to touch the barrel, and it just seemed like a good idea to remove. After a few minutes with a screwdriver and some pliers (darn thing didn't want to come off) my shotgun looks more respectable...and man does it feel a lot lighter. Its kind of odd really, the heat shield doesn't weigh that much, but without it the gun balances so much more and feels so much lighter.

Having a 20in barrel and 20in mag tube, she's no light weight, but one less pointless accessory makes her feel a little more slim.

Just thought I'd share this tale of de-tacticooling a fine firearm.

Think I'll keep the side saddle though. It was too much of an annoyance to put on to take it off now.

I'll bet it's lighter if you take the side saddle (fully loaded of course) off.

I like my heat shield. Saved my hand more than once.
