Different Primers

Included on "load recipes" are the primers used for the loadings. What difference does it make if one type of primer is used in lue of another? For instance, if one loading listed Federal primers and I used Wolf, does it make a difference, provided I use the same size and only alter the brand? Thanks.

As long as you aren't bumping up against the MAX charge of a load the primer brand won't matter too much. Yes, different primer brands will burn at a slightly different rate but all will be around the same. (again, as long as you aren't loading the MAX charge) As with anything else, start out low and work your way up and you will be fine.

Technically when any component is changed from a known load you should drop 10% and start over. Realistically, archangel is right- as long as you are not playing in uncharted territory with regard to powder charges- MAX or above- you'll be fine switching primer brands.
