Dillon Problems

All you Dillon Gurus, I'm having a problem with my new 650 with two things, first the ejector for the loaded round, it will eject perfectly for a few rounds, then either hang or jerk ejecting the loaded cartridge. I've called Dillon twice, did everything they told me to do, #1 remove and clean the shell holder slots, #2 polish the left side of the shell holder to remove burr, no burr observed but stoned the surface anyway. I still have the same problem. Second problem, enhanced by the first problem, if you miss seating a primer and it indexes on to deposit the unused primer in the little catch tray, instead it cocks the primer rather than dropping it and it hangs between the primer wheel and the primer assembly body, locking up the press. I called Dillon this morning when they opened, they are sending a new shell plate. I am returning the one that came on my machine voluntarily, perhaps they can acertain what the problen is with it. Thanks anyway...don

you may have the shell plate tightened too much

Flip, I set it up as reccomended, backed off just a tad from snug, then I tryed it tight, and bad loose, probably one of 6 or 7 would hang and some that did not hang, hesitated enough to spill some powder flakes in the jerking motion before it extracted. I do hope that the new shell plate remedys the problem. I had it set up for .45 ACPs originally, it was a dream to load on.

if you still have the old shell plate handy you might look to see if there is a burr in the grove for the base of the case, I would be courious to know what is causing the problem

Mattcat, the person at Dillon advised the same thing, advised polishing the top edge on the left side of the shell holder, I used a oil stone to polish the edge although no burr was visable, this seemed to help but not cure the problem. Sorry, I mailed the part back to Dillon this morning just minutes after talking to them. I spent several hours loading and watching the movement of the shellplate contacting the extractor wire, it seemed to press the loaded case to the left side more than out of the shell plate. Who ever figured out this machine was a whole lot quicker than I am on mechanics.

Fortunately, I have somewhere around 2000 loaded rounds from a previous machine to rely on until I get this one up and running. We shoot silhouttes every thursday evening,,,and today is the day I shoot a perfect,,,I hope!

One thing I did notice was a slight burr on the cases that it failed to extract on the front side of the rim, it appeared as two small burrs so possibly a burr in the groove where the case head is held, that would certainly hang up a case.
