This is a bit of old news that is being recycled. There is a new merchant code for gun shops and sporting goods stores. But the merchant code will not tell anyone what someone actually bought at those stores.

Don't use a discover card to buy firearms, or anything else for that matter. This isn't that hard of an issue. When companies start doing this stuff stop doing business with that company.
