Disposing of reloading waste

If you have brass that recyclers won't take and you have set up for melting lead already with propane just get another cast iron pot with a cover. Melt them down and skim the plate off the top and then you have brass blocks that they WILL take. You do have to heat things hotter (1700*) but it can be done with an insulation wrapped cast iron pot. The pot is just below starting to glow at that point. I have played around with casting things with zinc, aluminum, and brass but it takes a lot of heat for brass (1700*) and aluminum (1220*) so most will not bother.

I'm another that saves spent primers and junk brass to recycle. I just called 5 different places checking prices. 1 place would not take it. 1 place did not want it but offered 40cents a pound. 2 places offered 50cents a pound and 1 offered $1 a pound. Prices must be down as I remember getting a little more than that in the past.

Not knowing the laws in other places I hesitate offering advice on disposal. But if I was to throw it away I would bag or box it up with something else and chunk it. I use plastic bags when I clean Kitty's litter box out. Just saying............

As to buying brass at the scrap yards, be careful. You would not want to buy anything that I scrapped!

Just because of others using my spent unsafe brass I crush the mouths of anything that one might try to use to keep others safe. The prices are down from the last couple years for sure. Keep checking as it fluctuates with the seasons. When scrap is down is when to go and buy lead IMO.
